The Molecular and Cell Biology group is one of three specialization groups within the Department of Bioengineering. The group was established in December 2023 on the basis of arranging staff with expertise to teach modules related to molecular biology and cell technology for bachelor's degrees in bioengineering, food engineering, and biomedical engineering. The officers of the professional group also participate in the master's degree programs in Biotechnology, Food Technology and the doctoral training program in Biotechnology. Currently, the professional group consists of 10 staff (03 Associate Professors, 05 PhDs, 01 Master and 01 Engineer), undertaking the task of teaching 38 modules.

Main research directions:
- Research and develop rapid analytical solutions and tools based on molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology techniques for analysis and diagnosis of diseases and pathogens, applications in healthcare, veterinary medicine, fisheries and food safety control.
- Research on screening and creating new gene sources, especially indigenous gene sources, for the goal of developing protein, enzyme, biologically active ingredients thanks to proteomics and molecular biology techniques for industrial, agricultural, medical and pharmaceutical applications.
- Research on animal cell culture technology, recombinant technology on animal cells and cell products for bioproduct development.
- Microbial diversity studies using culture and non-culture directions, assessing their role in material metabolism in ecosystems as well as horizontal gene transfer between them and risks to human health and ecosystem sustainability.

- Research and apply Blockchain technology for managing the chain of pepper production and consumption in Vietnam (Ministry of Science and Technology). MS: KC-4.0-24/19-25. 2021 – 2024.
- Study the biological characteristics and activity of Bacillus strains to produce probiotic preparations that are safe for livestock. 2019 – 2022.
- Research technology to produce Lactoferrin preparation from recombinant Pichia pastoris to produce functional foods. 2018-2020.
- Research on technology for the production of recombinant nattokinase and its application to produce drugs on an industrial scale. 2017-2020.
- Study on the technological process of creating CoQ10 preparations from recombinant Agrobacterium tumefaciens for the production of functional foods. 2014-2015.
International cooperation:
- Research on creating Vibrio natriegens strains to convert N-acetyl glucosamine into lysine to produce lysine preparations from shrimp processing by-products (Germany-Vietnam Protocol). 2021 – 2024
- Research and develop methods and tools for rapid analysis of pathogenic microorganisms and toxins in aquatic products (Italy-Vietnam Protocol). 2014-2017.

- Study of isolation and exploitation of endogenous microorganisms in Tonkin leaf gentian (Croton tonkinensis GAGNEP.). ). 2024-2025.
- Study of the characterization of microflora in anaerobic sludge of antinitrate tanks capable of treating sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) in protein-splitting natural rubber (DPNR) wastewater. 2023-2026.
- Research on creating rapid test strips to detect Dengue virus using the detection of dengue pathogens. 2020 – 2021.
- Research on UASB-DHS-DNR system integration to improve the efficiency of treatment of organic and nitrogen pollution in rubber wastewater. 2020-2021.
- Research on anaerobic granular sludge generation technology of UASB systems. 2016-2017.
- The study created a test strip biokit for rapid detection of diarrheal rota virus in children. 2014-2015.
