1. General introduction
The Biochemistry Group is one of the three specialized engineering groups of the Department of Bioengineering, established on December 11, 2023 under decision 31/QD-SCLS of the Dean of the School of Chemistry and Life Sciences, which is responsible for teaching theoretical and practical modules related to Biochemistry for Bachelor and Engineering Programs Biology, Food Engineering Bachelor's and Engineering Programs, Bioengineering Advanced Programs, Food Engineering Advanced Programs, Biomedical Engineering Bachelor's Programs, and Master's and Doctoral Biotechnology programs. The group currently consists of 7 permanent staff (including 6 doctors, 1 master of science, 1 master of engineering) and 3 collaborators (2 Assoc. PhD, 1 MSc Engineering), from the departments of Microbiology-Biochemistry-Molecular Biology, Biotechnology and the Biotechnology Research and Development Center of the Institute of Biotechnology and Food Technology previously. The members of the group have 15-25 years of experience in teaching, researching, technology transfer, have been chairing and participating in dozens of research projects at all levels on enzymes, recombinant enzymes and enzymatic techniques applied in industries, environments, developing methods, tools for rapid analysis of pathogenic microorganisms and toxins based on nucleic acids and proteins, acquisition and application of biologically active substances ..., is the author of many Vietnamese and English textbooks, intellectual property patents. The professional team is committed to bringing the latest knowledge and extensive understanding in the field of Biochemistry to students and the community, contributing to training high-quality human resources for the development and advancement of Bioengineering, Food, Biomedical in particular and society in general.

3. Research directions
Currently, our research topics in Biochemistry focus on the main directions:
- Enzymatics, recombinant enzymes and applied enzymatic engineering in industries and health sciences: this research direction focuses mainly on the acquisition, separation, purification, stabilization of enzymatic preparations and exploitation of the applicability of enzymes of natural origin, recombinant or immobilized enzymes. Enzymes that have been studied include amylase, beta-glucosidase, beta-galactosidase, acetylcholinesterase, mannanase, xylanase, cellulase, lignin peroxidase, tyrosinase, laccase, chitosanase, nattokinase...
- Development of methods and tools for the analysis of pathogenic microorganisms, toxins in the fields of medicine, food, animal husbandry based on nucleic acids and based on proteins, enzymes.
- Bioactive substances: focuses on the acquisition and exploitation of substances with antioxidant, anti-cancer cell activity, antimicrobial resistance, enzyme suppression, and prebiotic activity.
- Synthetic biology.
