University of Kyoto Japan Visits and Collaborates with Hanoi University of Science and Technology

On February 28, 2024, a significant event took place at Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) as Assoc. Prof. Huynh Quyet Thang, the Director of the University, presided over a working session with the delegation from Kyoto University (KU), Japan, led by Professor Inagaki Kyoko, the Executive Vice President of Kyoto University.

The meeting saw participation from representatives of both universities. Representing Kyoto University were Professor Nawata Eiji, Director of the ASEAN Center; Honorary Professor Fujii Shigeo; Professor Echigo Shinya from the Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies (GSGES, KU), along with faculty members representing various functional departments of Kyoto University. Representatives from Hanoi University of Science and Technology included Assoc. Prof. Chu Ky Son, Dean of the School of Chemistry and Life Science (SCLS); Assoc. Prof.  Nguyen Thi Anh Tuyet, Vice Dean of SCLS and the Director of the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (INEST); Dr. Pham Hung Dung, Deputy Head of the International Cooperation Office; Dr. Pham Ngoc Hung, Head of the SCLS Administration, along with faculty members who are alumni of Kyoto University currently working at HUST. Additionally, there were representatives from the alumni network of Kyoto University in several Southeast Asian countries such as Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, and the Philippines.

Opening the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Huynh Quyet Thang, Director of HUST, shared about the collaborative relationship between the two universities, particularly in the field of environmental research, and expressed the desire to expand cooperation in both education and research between the two institutions. He also expressed hope for the support of Professor Inagaki Kyoko in advancing this cooperative relationship.

In response, Professor Inagaki Kyoko expressed gratitude for the warm reception and close cooperation from Hanoi University of Science and Technology. She emphasized the importance of building and strengthening the collaborative relationship between the two universities in the future.

Also, within the framework of the working session, Assoc. Prof. Chu Ky Son, Dean of SCLS, expressed pleasure regarding the extensive collaboration between KU and HUST, specifically between the Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies (GSGES, KU) and the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (HUST), now the School of Chemistry and Life Science. Assoc. Prof. Chu Ky Son emphasized and expressed the desire to further promote interdisciplinary cooperation, research projects, and student exchange programs between the two universities and the alumni network of Kyoto University in Southeast Asian countries.

During the visit and working session, Professor Inagaki Kyoko and the delegation also visited the office of the "KU-HUST Research and Education Program for the Environmental Studies" at HUST.

The working session between Hanoi University of Science and Technology and Kyoto University highlighted the importance of international cooperation in education and research. It is hoped that this collaboration will bring many opportunities and benefits for both parties in the future.
