Green chemistry, also known as sustainable chemistry, promotes the design of products and processes that minimize the use or production of hazardous substances for humans and the environment while maximizing the efficient use of resources and raw materials for closed material and energy cycles.

At the the 11th Korea-Vietnam Green Chemistry Conference (GCC), domestic and international delegates exchanged views and discussed complex issues in the field of chemistry, such as: environmental and energy application materials; innovative materials in electroplating technology, catalytic treatment of exhaust gases, catalysts and materials for water treatment; rubber materials; materials for organic dye treatment; fluorescent sensors; photoactive hematite materials and nanostructures for enhanced solar energy conversion into hydrogen, polymers, and nano materials for liquid crystal displays, batteries, and energy storage; chemistry applied to healthcare (chemistry of nano compounds in cancer detection and treatment, Alzheimer's; electrochemical sensor in disease detection; fluorescent nano sensors in cell research; fabrication of serotonin nano sensors with high sensitivity; some pharmacologically active compounds from Gardenia…).

Since its inception in 2012, the Korea-Vietnam GCC has become an interdisciplinary forum for discussing advances in green chemistry, advances in chemical-biological technology, biomedical materials, chemistry and the environment, chemistry and energy. Additionally, the Conference provides an opportunity for professors from universities in Korea and Vietnam to meet and exchange ideas for future research and training collaborations between the two sides.
