On the morning of June 4th, in room C10-302, Associate Professor Hoang Thi Thu Huong, Head of the Department of Environmental Science and Technology, on behalf of the Board of Directors of the School of Chemistry and Life Sciences (SCLS), warmly welcomed Professor Rattapon Onchang from the Department of Environmental Science, Faculty of Science, Silpakorn University, Thailand. Silpakorn University is a long-time academic partner of the Department of Environmental Science and Technology.
Professor Rattapon Onchang, representing Silpakorn University, sincerely thanked the SCLS for their warm reception. He began the meeting with an introduction to Silpakorn University, a leading public university in Thailand, established in 1943. The university currently has 24,083 students and 1,132 staff members, with five campuses located in Bangkok, Nakhon Pathom, and Phetchaburi. The Faculty of Science, located in Nakhon Pathom, is one of the 14 faculties of Silpakorn University.
On behalf of the delegation from the School of Chemistry and Life Sciences, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Huong briefly introduced the history and development of Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST). She also highlighted that SCLS is one of the five newly established schools at HUST, detailing its organizational structure and curriculum. She particularly emphasized the English-taught programs, a point of significant interest to the Silpakorn University representative.
Associate Professor Hoang Thi Thu Huong expressed her pleasure in welcoming the delegation from the Faculty of Science at Silpakorn University to visit and work with SCLS. She hoped that this meeting would help both universities maintain and elevate their cooperative relationship to a new level, opening up many future prospects.
Professor Rattapon Onchang proposed that both sides quickly prepare for the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Faculty of Science at Silpakorn University and Department of Environmental Science and Technology (SCLS - HUST). Both parties would provide feedback on the draft agreement and agree on a time to sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
During the meeting, Associate Professor Huong proposed future cooperation directions, such as participating in joint online or in-person seminars, exchanging lecturers and students, and collaborating in advanced training programs. She emphasized the importance of strong ties between higher education institutions and believed that coordinated training between the two universities would bring many benefits to students.
The meeting proceeded in an atmosphere of agreement and openness, with both parties expressing their aspirations and desires to develop cooperation in education and scientific research. Both sides hoped for breakthrough cooperation in education and research in the near future.
The meeting concluded successfully, promising many valuable cooperative opportunities between the two universities in the future.
The Faculty of Science at Silpakorn University is organizing the "Silpakorn International Science Summer School 2024," taking place from June 8th to June 12th, 2024, at SCSU in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand. The program has offered three scholarships to students from the 65th and 66th cohorts of the Department of Environmental Science and Technology, covering the full cost of the course, accommodation expenses, and partial travel support to Thailand (3,000 THB ~ 2,000,000 VND). During this program, participants will attend classes on the application of Physics, Biology, and Chemistry in Environmental and Life Sciences and have the opportunity to explore the natural environment in the Pathom region, Thailand.
