"Scientific research is like a 'long-term resistance'", Minh Trang laughs, "when discouraged, the orientation of the instructors and the encouragement of the labmates is very important". Overcoming these difficulties, the team members not only succeeded in extracting a pure compound, but also found a new ecdisteroid compound that was isolated for the first time in the world from the plant.

According to two female students, scientific research helps supplement empirical knowledge from classroom lectures and helps shape a scientist's serious, careful and meticulous working style. These are the first steps on the road to conquering science and technology of two young researchers.

As a research university, the topics in the Conference include both basic and applied research to solve real-life problems. The trend of interdisciplinary research is increasingly evident, when many students register for topics that use knowledge and skills in one discipline to solve problems in another industry.

“Study on synthesis of Polycaprolactone – Carbonate Apatite interstructure materials by 3D printing for bone implant application” presented in the Materials Science and Engineering division is a demonstration of interdisciplinary research. . The group consists of 3 students from the School of Materials Research on synthesizing composite materials (synthetic materials) applied in biomedicine.
 

According to student Nguyen Van Ha, Carbonate Apatite, a new material, has advantages compared to other popular materials used in bone implants today, which are biocompatibility and fast biodegradation time. (3-6 months), help promote wound healing.

A special feature of the topic lies in the 3D printing method, a method that has been gradually gaining popularity in recent years. The advantage of 3D printing compared to the two traditional synthesis methods is the ability to quickly create prototypes and easily "print" complex artificial bone structures with small details, thanks to the simulation software program. wound. This method does not use heat, so it does not affect the structure and properties of biomedical materials like traditional methods.

In addition, 3D printing is capable of creating small pores on artificial bone samples with arbitrary size, high strength and connectivity. The interconnected pores will help cells and blood move freely in the material, easily cling to the nooks and crannies of the artificial bone and thereby promote the self-regeneration and recovery process of the wound.

An "unexpected" achievement after participating in scientific research is that all members' foreign language skills have improved because the research process requires a lot of time reading scientific articles in English. “I wasn't interested in scientific research at first either. But when I really learned, I gradually became excited and passionate. I hope to be able to continue to research many interesting and meaningful topics," Ha honestly shared.
