On December 19, 2024, at Room C1-222 of Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), the opening of the 3rd Joint Symposium and the Inauguration Ceremony of the Japan Corner took place in a solemn and inspiring atmosphere. This significant event, part of the project “Innovating Natural Rubber Science and Technology in the Global Carbon Process (INBERBON),” marked a new milestone in the educational and research collaboration between HUST and Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT), Japan.

The event commenced with an opening speech by Assoc.Prof. Huynh Quyet Thang, President of HUST. In his remarks, Assoc. Prof. Thang highlighted the importance of international collaboration, especially between two leading universities of Vietnam and Japan. Following this, Prof. Kamado Shigeharu, President of NUT, delivered an enthusiastic speech emphasizing the strong relationship between the two institutions and their commitment to future cooperation.

A highlight of the event was the award ceremony honoring Professor Emeritus Masao Fukuda. Prof. Fukuda was recognized for his outstanding contributions to research and teaching, as well as his pivotal role in fostering international collaboration between Vietnam and Japan. Assoc. Prof. Huynh Quyet Thang, on behalf of HUST, presented the prestigious award, demonstrating high appreciation for Prof. Fukuda’s relentless efforts.

The program continued with the inauguration of the Japan Corner—a symbolic space representing the robust partnership between the two universities and nations.

In their speeches, Mr. Yuichi Sugano, Chief Representative of JICA Vietnam, and Prof. Emeritus Yasushi Yamaguchi from the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) underscored the Japan Corner’s importance in promoting bilateral academic and research exchanges.

Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the Japan Corner is poised to become a leading center for research and knowledge sharing, providing scientists and students with access to advanced technologies and opportunities to implement groundbreaking projects.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was conducted by distinguished delegates, including Assoc. Prof. Huynh Quyet Thang, Assoc. Prof. Huynh Dang Chinh, Prof. Kamado Shigeharu, Mr. Yuichi Sugano, Prof. Yasushi Yamaguchi, and Mr. Dinh Minh Tung. This moment symbolized the beginning of a promising journey of collaboration.

In the afternoon, the program featured research presentations from representatives of both Vietnam and Japan. Prof. Seiichi Kawahara and Assoc. Prof. Phan Trung Nghia shared in-depth perspectives, opening opportunities for exchange and collaboration in various research fields. A poster exhibition and tea party followed, allowing delegates to network, exchange experiences, and explore innovative research projects from the two universities.

The event concluded with closing speeches by Prof. Takashi Yamaguchi and Mr. Huynh Tan Sieu. Despite a busy schedule, Mr. Sieu took the time to participate and share profound encouragement, highlighting the importance of collaboration in education and research.
