Introduction

The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of the School of Chemistry and Life Sciences (SCLS), Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), brings together students who share a spirit of initiative, creativity and service. Guided by its motto, “Dynamism – Creativity – Dedication – Growth,” the School’s Youth Union accompanies students throughout their university journey, connecting academic pursuits with opportunities for personal development and meaningful contribution. Its activities encompass academic support, scientific research, innovation, volunteering, cultural expression and sport, offering students a rich university experience beyond the classroom. Through these opportunities, students can discover their strengths, build lasting friendships and develop the confidence to take on new responsibilities. Above all, the Youth Union seeks to cultivate a community in which learning goes hand in hand with action, and individual growth contributes to the collective good.

Functions, Duties and Organizational Structure

The School’s Youth Union seeks to create an environment that combines political and ideological education with intellectual, physical and personal development. Its responsibilities include organizing and strengthening affiliated Youth Union branches, coordinating with Students’ Association branches, recognizing students’ achievements and contributions, and gathering their concerns and constructive suggestions for communication to the School’s leadership. Alongside these representative and organizational duties, it provides extracurricular opportunities through academic support, career guidance, community service, voluntary campaigns, and cultural and sporting programmes. Its organizational work also includes overseeing branch activities, supporting congresses and conferences, maintaining membership records, reviewing supporting documents for student conduct assessments, and coordinating year-end recognition and commendation. These responsibilities help sustain an orderly and responsive organization while ensuring that students’ participation and contributions receive appropriate attention.

The School’s Youth Union operates through its Executive Committee, Standing Committee, specialized committees and affiliated branches, with eight specialized committees supporting its principal areas of work. The Organization and Inspection Committee oversees organizational procedures and branch affairs, while the Information and Communications Committee produces news articles, visual designs, photographs and media coverage to keep students informed and connected. The Cultural and Sporting Activities Committee supports performances, rehearsals, competitions and recreational activities; the Logistics Committee assists with budgeting, procurement and event preparation. The Academic Support, Scientific Research and Innovation Committee organizes learning support, academic competitions and opportunities to engage with lecturers and experts, while the Admissions Support Committee assists with recruitment communications, consultation events and HUST’s Open Day. The Youth Volunteering Committee coordinates community-oriented participation, and the First-Year Student Affairs Committee helps newcomers adjust to university life, understand academic and institutional requirements, and become involved in student activities. Together, these committees provide practical settings in which students can develop communication, teamwork, planning and organizational skills through direct participation.

Role of the Youth Union

The School’s Youth Union connects students with the School and provides opportunities to translate knowledge, enthusiasm and social responsibility into purposeful action. Traditional flag-raising ceremonies, welcome programmes and student–School dialogue sessions support civic awareness, institutional belonging and constructive communication, while annual recruitment for specialized committees and class-level Youth Union congresses encourage students to participate in organizational life. Academic activities include support classes for foundational courses, research-related work, academic competitions and specialist seminars with lecturers and experts; the NetZero and Carbon Reborn competitions identified in the activity outline further enrich this academic and interdisciplinary programme. Cultural activities offer opportunities for singing, dance, instrumental performance, choreography and event hosting, while sporting activities include football, volleyball, badminton, running and chess, alongside the organization and coordination of student tournaments. First-year camps and welcome activities help new students build connections, while the “Mùa Hè Xanh” (Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign) and “Tình nguyện Mùa Đông” (Winter Youth Volunteer Campaign) programmes place community engagement alongside academic and extracurricular development. The School’s published volunteering portfolio also includes examination-season support, community clean-up activities and voluntary blood donation, allowing students to contribute in practical ways while strengthening their sense of discipline, cooperation and responsibility

SCLS Youth Union Executive Committee

The Executive Committee of the School’s Youth Union provides organizational leadership and coordination, bringing together the work of specialized committees and affiliated branches. According to information published by the School, Dr. Duc-Trung Nguyen serves as Secretary for the 2025–2027 term, supported by Deputy Secretaries MSc. Linh Tuan Nguyen and MSc. Nhung Thi Tuyen Pham, who holds a master’s degree. The Committee includes staff and student representatives involved in organization and inspection, academic support and scientific research, communications, cultural and sporting activities, and volunteering. Its coordinating role links the preparation of programmes with their implementation, from organizational procedures and event communications to logistical arrangements and student participation. Through collaboration between staff and students, the Executive Committee helps maintain continuity across activities while creating opportunities for student members to assume responsibility and contribute their ideas. In this way, participation in the Youth Union becomes not only an opportunity to join events, but also an opportunity to learn how to plan, lead and serve a wider student community.

Students’ Association Executive Committee

The Executive Committee of the School’s Students’ Association works alongside the Youth Union to connect students, support their academic and personal development, and encourage participation in student movements and collective activities. According to the School’s published membership list, Long Duc The Nguyen, a student in Chemical Engineering Class 11, Cohort 68, serves as President; Ngan Thi Kim Dang and Hieu Tran Trung Do serve as Vice Presidents. Together with the other Committee members, they provide a point of connection between students and the School’s Youth Union–Students’ Association network. Within this shared framework, academic support, first-year integration, cultural and sporting participation, and community engagement offer complementary pathways for students to become involved in university life. The Association’s contribution is therefore closely connected with building a supportive student community—one in which students can express their needs, share their abilities, form meaningful relationships and participate with confidence. Working in partnership with the Youth Union, it helps foster a university experience shaped by solidarity, initiative and a willingness to contribute.
