On the morning of August 7, 2025, in Room 402-C10, a scientific seminar on environmental technology was delivered by Assoc. Prof. Takahiro Watari – a former research student at Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), currently serving as Associate Professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT), Japan. The seminar not only brought fresh scientific insights into water treatment and environmental technologies, but also opened valuable opportunities for Vietnamese students and researchers to access advanced scholarship and training programs at one of Japan’s leading technological universities.

With the theme “Engineering Water, Waste, and Life: Research and Innovation at NUT’s Aqua and Soil Lab”, Assoc. Prof. Takahiro Watari introduced the remarkable research achievements of the Aqua and Soil Environmental Laboratory at NUT, where he works alongside top professors and researchers. The lab focuses on key research areas such as developing domestic and industrial wastewater treatment systems, and closed-loop, land-based aquaculture technologies, all aimed at sustainable development in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In particular, Assoc. Prof. Watari shared information about scholarships and study opportunities at NUT – ranked 17th nationwide among 793 universities and 309 colleges in Japan. NUT was the first Japanese university to establish cooperation with Vietnam in the 1990s, and currently 68 Vietnamese students are studying and conducting research here.

Opportunities available for Vietnamese students include:
SDGs Master’s Scholarship: 80,000 yen/month
Five-Year Integrated Program in the Department of Science and Technology Innovation: exemption from admission fees, tuition waiver for up to five years, paid employment as a Research Assistant (50,000 – 170,000 yen/month depending on research activities), and opportunities for overseas research internships.
