President Huynh Quyet Thang Welcomes the Ambassador of El Salvador to Vietnam

Before the meeting at the School of Chemistry and Life Sciences, Ambassador Ruben Omar Orozco Burgos had a productive discussion with Assoc. Prof. Huynh Quyet Thang — President of HUST. Both sides explored potential avenues for cooperation in a variety of sectors, including education, science and technology, agriculture, renewable energy, and geoadaptive construction. During the meeting, Ambassador Orozco highlighted El Salvador’s ongoing efforts to attract investment from leading global technology corporations. Notably, he mentioned Google’s initiatives and a recent private meeting between El Salvador’s President and billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk. The Ambassador emphasized the critical role universities and educational institutions play in the country’s technological progress. “El Salvador’s advances in science and technology require support not only from the Government but also from universities. We wish to strongly promote cooperation with universities in Vietnam,” he remarked. Ambassador Orozco also expressed admiration for Vietnam’s multi-sector development achievements, especially the country’s effective use of science and technology in agriculture and industry. He highly valued Vietnam’s comprehensive development policies aimed at improving the quality of life for its people. He further shared that green energy accounts for 70% of El Salvador’s national energy development program — identifying it as a promising area for future collaboration.
During the conversation, the Ambassador revealed his deep emotion when recalling his own time as a university lecturer, which made him especially value visits to educational institutions like HUST. He expressed his aspiration to establish a cooperative roadmap with HUST in fields such as geoadaptive construction — an urgent concern for El Salvador, given its geographical vulnerability to seismic activity. Representing HUST, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Dac Trung — Head of the Department of International Cooperation — acknowledged the Ambassador’s goodwill and keen interest in education and high-quality human resource development. Assoc. Prof. Trung affirmed: “Although South America lies half a world away from Vietnam, we have always paid close attention to countries in this region, including El Salvador. We have welcomed several South American student delegations to study and conduct research here and hope to expand cooperation in areas such as digitalization, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and sustainable agriculture.” At the subsequent meeting with the School of Chemistry and Life Sciences, Assoc. Prof. Chu Ky Son expressed his hope that the Embassy of El Salvador would serve as a bridge to introduce El Salvadoran businesses to Vietnam’s market. He also encouraged the promotion of cooperation agreements in fields such as agriculture, science and technology, education, and culture — helping to create favorable legal and institutional frameworks for long-term bilateral development. The meeting concluded in a cordial and cooperative atmosphere. Ambassador Ruben Omar Orozco Burgos once again expressed his gratitude for the warm reception from the leadership of the School of Chemistry and Life Sciences. As a gesture of friendship, he presented the HUST delegation with El Salvador’s specialty coffee products — a symbol of goodwill between the two nations. This meeting opened numerous practical and long-term cooperation opportunities between Hanoi University of Science and Technology and partners from El Salvador in education, training, and science and technology. It also contributed to strengthening the friendship and partnership between Vietnam and El Salvador in the years ahead.
