Expanding Connections – Linking Vietnamese and Russian Knowledge On the afternoon of October 23, at Room 215 - C4, Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), the School of Chemistry and Life Sciences (SCLS) welcomed and worked with a delegation from Ivanovo State University of Chemistry and Technology (ISUCT), Russian Federation.

The meeting was chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Hồng Liên – Vice Dean of SCLS, with the participation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Đặng Trung Dũng – Head of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, SCLS lecturers, and ISUCT representatives including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sci. Natalia E. Gordina – Rector, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sci. Andrey A. Gushchin – Vice Rector for Science, along with experts in inorganic technology, physical chemistry, and fertilizers.
ISUCT is a specialized university in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering with a student body of up to 80,000, ranking among the top three universities in Russia in these fields. Notably, Assoc. Prof. Nguyễn Thị Thu Hà – an outstanding alumna of ISUCT – is now teaching at SCLS in her field of expertise: Theoretical and Computational Physical Chemistry.

Comprehensive Discussion on Educational and Research Collaboration During the meeting, both institutions introduced their training programs, research orientations, and engaged in in-depth discussions on potential cooperation in education, student exchange, and scientific research, particularly in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mineral Technology, and Advanced Inorganic Materials Technology.

Both sides share the same goal of training high-quality human resources through flexible, modern academic programs that combine theory, practice, and research – all aligned with international standards.
The two universities are considering launching a joint master’s program (1+1 format) taught in English, and later developing a dual-degree advanced bachelor’s program (2+2 format). The ISUCT delegation also expressed interest in sending their researchers and lecturers to Vietnam to teach in the advanced programs. In addition, ISUCT and SCLS look forward to conducting joint research projects, co-publishing scientific papers, training PhD students, and exchanging faculty members.

Cooperation Built on Tradition – Aiming Toward the Future Assessing the collaboration potential, both sides agreed: “SCLS – HUST and ISUCT share strong compatibility in expertise, teaching methodology, and development direction. This cooperation will foster academic exchange, technology transfer, and further strengthen the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Russia in education and scientific research.”

The cost of living in Russia is considered relatively low compared to other European countries. Moreover, Vietnamese students studying in Russia have opportunities to receive government scholarships from both nations, as highlighted during General Secretary Tô Lâm’s recent visit to the Russian Federation. ISUCT also pledged additional support, particularly in providing dormitory accommodation for HUST students.
