Within the framework of the CEBCAT - Building Capacities for a Transition to a Circular Economy project, Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) has delivered two training rounds under Module 1: Basics of Sustainability and Circular Economy versus Linear Economic System (10 ECTS) in July and September 2026. The programme aims to strengthen participants' knowledge and capacity in environmental issues, sustainability, and the transition from a linear to a circular economic system.
From environmental challenges to circular economy strategies One of the key messages of the programme is that the circular economy goes far beyond recycling. The transition towards a circular economy requires a more comprehensive approach to resource extraction and use, production and consumption, as well as a better understanding of how economic activities interact with the environment and the boundaries of our planet. Module 1 carries 10 ECTS and consists of two courses:
Course 1: Environmental Problems and Planetary Boundaries This course focuses on important environmental challenges and relevant measurement tools, with particular emphasis on the principles of energy transition and the circular economy.
Training at Hanoi University of Science and Technology
Course 2: Strategies for a Circular Economy This course introduces approaches and strategies for the transition towards a circular economy, contributing to more efficient resource use and sustainable development.
Combining classroom learning, practical activities and e-learning
The programme combines classroom learning, practical activities and e-learning. Classroom and practical sessions are guided by lecturers from the Faculty of Environmental Science and Technology at HUST, while the e-learning component is supported by CEBCAT lecturers.
According to the programme information, each class accommodates up to 20 participants, and participants receive a certificate upon completion of the course.

Two rounds completed - the next opportunity is coming
Following the two training rounds delivered in July and September 2026, the programme will continue with another training round in 2027.According to the announced schedule, the next registration period will take place in January 2027, with the training scheduled for February-April 2027.The upcoming round will provide another opportunity for participants to explore environmental challenges and planetary boundaries while gaining insights into strategies and tools that can support the transition towards a circular economy.
Through these training activities, CEBCAT and Hanoi University of Science and Technology aim to contribute to capacity building and knowledge sharing in sustainability while supporting the broader transition towards circular economic models.
